What the EU AI Act means for AI Literacy in Enterprises
Is your organisation equipped appropriately for the EU AI Act era?

AI literacy isn’t a legal requirement yet. But it’s fast becoming a strategic necessity.
As the EU AI Act takes effect, businesses are under growing pressure to use AI safely, ethically, and effectively.
Are your teams equipped with the knowledge and skills to make confident, compliant and value-driven use of AI?
The EU AI Act in a nutshell
The EU AI Act is the world’s first comprehensive framework for artificial intelligence. Its goal is to ensure that AI use across Europe is safe, transparent and trustworthy.
According to Article 4 of the EU AI Act, any provider or deployers of AI systems must ensure, to the best of their ability, that all staff have a sufficient level of AI literacy. Therefore, any businesses using AI in any way are required to provide mandatory AI literacy training for their workforce.
It categorises AI applications by risk level and places new obligations on organisations that develop, deploy or use AI in their operations.
This includes requirements for:
- Transparency and accountability in AI decision-making
- Risk assessment and mitigation for high-impact systems
- Human oversight and documentation
- Ethical and environmental considerations in AI development
Note: Companies based outside the EU that offer AI systems or services to users within the EU are also subject to the Act.
Even if your business is not developing AI systems, you may still be affected as an AI user, particularly if your teams rely on tools that automate decisions or process customer data.

Why is AI literacy important?
AI literacy bridges the gap between regulation and readiness.Organisations that invest in AI education are better equipped to:
- Use AI confidently, without crossing ethical or legal boundaries
- Spot compliance risks early and act responsibly
- Improve productivity through effective use of GenAI tools
- Build trust with customers, regulators, and partners
Recent research shows:
of employees already use AI tools at work, often without formal training
Expected increase in workplace performance for companies using AI
of organisations have adopted AI for at least one business function
of organisations have a clear AI policy or upskilling strategy
AI literacy ensures your workforce understands both the potential and the parameters of AI, turning risk into opportunity.
